Back Blogging with Wordpress.com
Before deciding to create my own domain, I tried some blog engines; blogspot, multiply, and wordpress. Each of them has its own advantages. The last, wordpress, I think the most suit one for me. Its elegance, simple, link free, advertisement free, and beyond of that, it has many features. The most notable one now is post by email, almost exactly the same as running wordpress on my own hosting. (Read more…)

WebGIS Demo
After several days dealing with Mapserver in both local and online web server, finally, a WebGIS demo can be published. Thanks for people behind Mapserver and Fist opensources project.
Now, let me explain the story of this project…
A friend of mine, Mas Heri Satono requested me to provide an example for webgis. The example must be fully configured and contains local interest. At first, I though about embeding GoogleMap in a website. It is easy and simple. However, Gmail is not easy to be configured. Moreover, for an example of WebGIS, the Google logo must be disappear.
MapviewSVG crossed my mind. The main power of this choice is its integration with ArcView or ArcGIS. Its fancy flash effect also easy to catch our eyes attention. It is a perfect webGIS platform except the price…
Finally my choice felt to Mapserver platform. Yes it is not easy to configure and publish mapserver-based webgis. Our knowledge about coding is highly needed here. Moreover, like other opensources project, Mapserver lack of complete documentation. We have to find it by ourselves in internet. Decision had been made. Beyond its disadvantages, Mapserver has several positive marks. It is free, it is opensources, it has many application based on java, php, etc. I am now using FiST on Mapserver.
As a paralel project, I had requested another friend, Adi – who is mastering HTML, to develop another example of WebGIS. The choice is Ka-map on it.
Here are the link of our WebGIS demo. Your advices may helpful.

Upgrade PRS-505 Firmware
I have a Sony PRS-505 ebook reader system. An old device already now even its age only 1 year. It is so nice having a very comfortable reading gadget. Its E-Ink technology makes it mimics real paper instead of computer LCD screen. However, there was a limitation on it: Reading A4 PDF file on its 5″ display was not convenient due to PDF text is not fluid. The text was too small. Even I used PDFLRF to cut some unimportant margin, it is still not zoom enough. So, only PDF with small paper size is good on it. (Read more…)

Online Personal Library Using Wordpress
First, Why Online Personal Library? I have many resources related to my work and my interest. Books, journals, data, link, and many types of information. It is huge and abundant. In my hard drive, now it takes about 80GB. Of course, not all of them are important. I recon it is only about a quarter I really needed. One of the bad things storing my resources in hard drive is it’s difficulty to be searched. Everyone knows searching using Windows is suck. Google Desktop as the alternative for desktop searching takes a lot of resources. So, putting resources online is now my preference. Thanks for better internet connection I have at the moment. Hannruf vs Bagus.net – Speed vs Reliability
I have been using Hannruf Communication service as my ISP. First impression, I got a very satisfied netting experience. It was my fastest connection I ever had. However, the story was not stop right there. After couple of weeks, its reliability was under question. Sometimes, my internet was good. It often served me more than 50 kbps in http downloading. But, most of the time, I even can not log into my emails which made me like in the middle of jungle. (Read more…)

Two More RSSs Added in my VIIGO
I have been using VIIGO as my mobile RSS reader. I installed it in my mobile phone. It serves me well. At least, I dont have any complain yet until now. Some feeds have been in its list such as KOMPAS, ANTARA, ABC, ESRI News, TechCrunch, ZDNet, TechRepublic, etc. I never feel left behind other in gaining new information.
Moreover, I do love collecting books. It does not matter whether I will read the books promptly or not, I often download many books I am interesting in. Gigapedia and Mininova are among the main sources. Beware, those sources are illegal. If we have money, it is better to buy the books from Amazon.
To know what books available in those sources, I decided to put their RSS in my VIIGO. Here they are.
