Upgrade PRS-505 Firmware
I have a Sony PRS-505 ebook reader system. An old device already now even its age only 1 year. It is so nice having a very comfortable reading gadget. Its E-Ink technology makes it mimics real paper instead of computer LCD screen. However, there was a limitation on it: Reading A4 PDF file on its 5″ display was not convenient due to PDF text is not fluid. The text was too small. Even I used PDFLRF to cut some unimportant margin, it is still not zoom enough. So, only PDF with small paper size is good on it.
Fortunately, a good news comes. Sony eBook Library Software for the Sony® Reader (New Version 3.0) has been out with some major improvements. The most notable one is its ability to make texts in PDF file fuid when zoomed in. Thanks Sony, more pleasure in my reading with PRS-505 now. My plan to buy A4 size IRex Digital Reader has been canceled now.
Run your eBook Library software on your PC, Click on HELP menu, then Check for Updates. The firmware updating will starts. Just make sure the PC is running well. Beware with its power. It said, if there is disruption on the firmware updating process the PRS-505 may be broken. Using notebook with internal battery seems to be better.

Saat ini saya baca e-book via Kohjinsa (sejenis PC-Tablet with OS Win Vista) yg layarnya bisa dilipat dan punya fasilitas touch-screen. Cuma repotnya agak berat (hampir 1 kg) dan battery life-nya terbatas. Dulunya sih pakai PDA O2 Xda ii s tapi layarnya yg cuma 3,5″ bikin mata cepat lelah.
Sepertinya gadget khusus buat baca e-book tidak banyak beredar di Indonesia. Mungkin Kang Beni bisa memberi informasi apa ada gadget/e-book reader sejenis Sony PRS-505 yg bisa baca file multi format spt djvu,lit,prc,pdb,dll. selain format standar spt pdf dan doc. dan tentunya ada di pasaran lokal.

Kohjinsa memang memiliki kelebihan dari ukuran layar serta tentu saja speed karena memang fisiknya adalah komputer. Tapi seperti yang pian bilang ada kelemahannya yaitu berat, boros, perlu booting. Saya pernah coba pakai PSP, tapi ada kelemahan tidak support PDF, kita harus konvert ke JPG dulu. Selain itu ya berebut terus dengan anak yang mau main Game.
Mengenai Ebook Reader di Indonesia, saya belum tahu di mana yang menjual. Mungkin belum ada pengimpor yang membawa barang seperti ini masuk ke Indo. Saya pernah mengontak Bhinneka.com juga tidak ada jawaban sama sekali, mungkin karena mereka tidak punya. Di etalase bhinneka.com juga tidak ada. Jadi maaf, saya tidak punya informasi tentang ebook reader di pasaran lokal.
