landsat2 Download Free Landsat Images (EarthExplorer)On previous post, I described a method to download Landsat 7 images for free from WIST website. It is a comprehensive images warehouse indeed. We can do search many images, not only Landsat, on WIST website. In this post, I want to discuss how to download Landsat images on EarthExplorer website.

1. Visit http://edcsns17.cr.usgs.gov/EarthExplorer/

2. Register. Skip this process if you have done.

3. Login.

4. Select your dataset(s). In this case, we are going to download Landsat 7 from 1999 – present. You may change this dataset selection suit your purpose.

5. Enter your search criteria. In this example, I want to download data taken from 1st January 2008 – present of my Area of Interest.

6. Navigate and create a selection. Navigate can be done by drag the map. Selection can be done by click twice on two different place, for example first click on upper-left and second click on bottom-right.

7. Set Number of Results to maximum possible number if you want. For example set it to 1000.

8. Click on 3. Search >>>

9. Result summary will be shown when Status change from Running to Complete.

10. Click on result summary (on L7 SLC-off (2003-present) above)

11. The search result will show like the following.

We can change the sort by clicking on “Change columns and Sort Order of Results” below the list. For example, we can sort the result by cloud cover, etc.

12.  I think everyone knows well how to download data if they have DOWNLOAD NOW status under Downloads column. I am not going to discuss how to download data under Download Now status.

13. Order data you want which has no Download Now status. Just tick under Order column.

14. “Add Selected Items to Shopping Basket“. The button is under the list. You can continue shopping until you think the data needed are in your shopping basket.

15. View your shopping basket. The button is under the list

16. Review your order. You can remove some redundant data.

17. Click on Chekout to cemplete the order.

18. Continue and enter address.

19. Change personal information if we want. Click on Submit Address Information ->

20. Done. What we need is waiting in our inbox until USGS/EROS gives us ftp/link to download.
